【新型コロナウイルス情報】　ベイエリアの自宅待機期間は5月末まで延長へ

ベイエリアで、自宅待機期間が5月末まで延長される共同声明が発表されました。詳細は今週後半に改めて発表されるようです。

"This global pandemic of COVID-19 is still in its early stages," the statement read. "The virus spreads easily, testing capacity is limited and expanding slowly, and vaccine development is just beginning. We expect to be responding to COVID-19 in our communities for a long time. （筆者抄訳：このCOVID-19の世界的なパンデミックはまだ初期段階にあり、ウイルスは簡単に感染を拡大するのに対し、検査能力は限られ、ワクチン開発も始まったばかり。まだまだCOVID-19への取り組みは長期戦です。現在の封鎖状況を安易に緩和した場合、ベイエリアの住民や経済に与える悪影響がさらに拡がる可能性もあります。私たちが共闘して達成してきた進歩を損なわないように、これからも一緒に共同戦線を張っていくことが肝要です。）

2月下旬から4月にかけて見られた北海道の事例も大きな教訓かと思います。北海道の緊急事態宣言によるCOVID-19の封じ込めは一時成功したかに見えましたが、封鎖が緩められたことで再度緊急事態宣言をすることになってしまいました。

そもそも、ベイエリアの学校は今年度の再開は見送られており、つまり6月までに閉鎖が決まっています。ベイエリアの自宅待機令が5月初めに解除されるとは思っていませんでした。5月末まで延長されたことを、安全への懸念面からはありがたく受け止めています。
